What is mindfulness? One of the most popular definitions (Kabat-Zinn) involves:
-
paying attention to the present moment
-
intentionally
-
nonjudgmentally
Simple, right? But not necessarily easy. Some research estimates that we spend about half our waking hours thinking, replaying, worrying, creating, problem-solving, etc., about something other than what we are doing *right now* (Killingsworth & Gilbert) Mindfulness is about creating a new relationship with your thoughts and feelings - so they don't have as much power over you and so you can be more intentional about taking the next best step.

There are many ways to build mindfulness skills; one very good method is meditation. Some people prefer to use a guided meditation - at least to begin with - so I have recorded a guided meditation and made it available here. I will add more meditations here over time. However, it's also important to remember that all of us can practice mindfulness at any point during our day.
